The Good
* Fairly straightforward and simple to use.
* Allows you to rip a DVD or convert DVD video files already on your computer.
* Allows you to rip/convert to many output video formats.
* Has "profiles" for iPhone, PSP, Blackberry, etc.
* Works fairly fast.
* Gives you a fair bit of control over your output video in terms of settings (resolution, aspect ratio, audio bitrate, etc.)
* Can bypass most (if not all) kinds of DRM protection and region locks.
* Detects and skips the commercials at the beginning of DVDs and "fast forwards" to the actual DVD video.
* Supports the high quality H.264 codec for .MP4s.
* Can rip just the audio.

Should I be concerned that my Avira antivirus is suspecting the setup.exe as having malware code? Is anyone else noticing such problems?

Good day all. Downloaded & installed on Vista Home Premium S2, 32X OK. From the features I’ve tried out so far, I agree with Ashraf’s comments on the quality of the DVD Ripper. But as it has only been available for a short time now, I’ll have to wait until later today to fully evaluate it.
But if you will look at the “Giveaway of the Day Project Team’s Blog “in the upper right corner, the 1st link is: “GAOTD teams up with Software Informer.” This new information will affect all of us in our downloading products here from now on, & there have been 6 comments on that new page so far. Several people yesterday were confused or irritated (or had security warnings) at the unexpected Software Informer coming with the download, & were not sure if it’s helpful or not. Many, including myself, had never heard of it before.
As Fubar mentioned yesterday, often time’s programs like the Software Informer have suggested versions that are actually older than current ones. I agree with his comment that I too would rather do my own updates. As some of mine are automatic, it could cause further confusion.
However, I also want to emphasize that regardless of this new issue, I have always been grateful to GAOTD for the daily opportunities that are generously provided from this website & for the wealth of information from the community here. Al

If your antivirus/antispyware is detecting setup.exe is "malicious", it's a false positive. That's because inside the setup.exe is bundled the "Software Informer" program, and anything similar is usually blocked by Antivirus apps.

Bonjour à tous.
Je n'ai pas encore téléchargé le logiciel du jour, mais je dois dire que j'ai eu un avertissement d'Avira Antivir hier en dézippant le fichier téléchargé depuis GOTD.
Cet avertissement provenait semble-t-il de ce qui a été ajouté par GOTD dans son fichier zippé, à savoir une petite fenêtre qui nous propose de télécharger et installer "Software Informer" si je me souviens bien.
Cet élément particulier semble être un faux positif, mais GOTD devrait retirer cet ajout car cela va poser problème pour tous ceux qui se servent d'Avira, de F-PROT6 et de VBA32 d'après "NoVirusThanks".
Le logiciel du jour provoque les mêmes mises en garde sur le site mentionné, qui ressemble à "VirusTotal", mais qui peut également aller scanner directement un fichier sur internet d'après son adresse.

Si GOTD veut offrir le logiciel "Software Informer", il ferait mieux de le faire sur le site lui-même et ne pas intégrer cette offre dans le fichier zippé du jour.
Je ferai remarquer finalement que dans la dernière année environ, depuis que je me sers d'Avira, environ 35% des fichiers infectés qui ont été trouvés sur mon ordinateur provenaient de logiciels offerts par GOTD.
Sachant fort bien qu'il y a souvent de faux positifs aujourd'hui avec presque n'importe quel anti-virus, lorsque mon anti-virus identifie un fichier comme étant infecté, je fais alors immédiatement une contre vérification avec VirusTotal ou avec NoVirusThanks.
Or, il s'adonne que la plupart des fois ou Avira m'a trouvé un fichier infecté qui provenait d'un logiciel fourni par GOTD, beaucoup d'autres anti-virus ont fourni le même résultat sur les scans en ligne nommés.

Aussi souvent que le numéro de série est fourni installez directement le fichier depuis le site de l'éditeur, vous serez ainsi débarassé des alertes d'antivirus du fait du système d'activation en ligne de gotd (je trouve d'ailleurs cela étrange, l'activation gotd ferait-elle office de spyware?)

Ce site à très mauvaise réputation classé rouge!
Donc je pense que certain vont rencontrer des problèmes avec leur Antivirus ou Anti-Malware !
Vrai-Faux positif, ça commence à mettre le doute, sur ces programmes!
Bon concernant le log du jour, son seul avantage et qu'il contourne certaines DRM. ET assez rapide !
-Un conseil lorsque vous allez vous en servir, ne travaillez pas avec votre ordi! sous peine de plantage, cause prend beaucoup de ressource
