Anybody ever heard of Piriform's CCleaner
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
which in its free version offers upto 35 time overwriting?
What idea do companies have to charge $ 39 for a single tool which needs installation on the operating system or am I misunderstanding?
It did not destroy the many hidden vaults I keep the data in. This software thinks those are bad sectors and skipped over it.
Safe House vaults are still readable after running super eraser. Also data folders inside windows operating system files survived the erasing.
I had an experience that one month before I had an old hard disk for sale and had been told that my deleted photos and files would be recovered with some kind of tool. I searched internet for evidence and here they were. This was so scare. So I have been recommended to use a partition software to erase data, and the name of that software is AOMEI Partition Assistant- a very powerful partition freeware. Now, I am still using it. Except the function of erasing data, it can also help migrate OS to SSD , make bootable CD, merge partition and any other functions.

jacksonX,

If you want -- if it'll make you feel better after using DoYourData Super Eraser -- go ahead & run a recovery app to see if it comes up with anything. There have been several on GOTD, there's freeware e.g. Recuva, and many of these apps have free trials [they may be limited to showing you what could be recovered if you bought the app, but as a simple check for recoverable files they should work fine].
Question - do you erase SSD files and drives, too? How do you bypass the spreading algorithm, which is internal to the drive, and causes rewrites, even to the same sector, to be actually written to a new place and not over the sensitive data?
Is this program portable? I have a couple of old computers that I want to dispose of but cannot trust that my personal data is gone. On one, there is no WIFI and the ethernet isn't working, so I would have to load and run it from a thumb drive. Can I download this and install it to a thumb drive for use on other computers?
Thanks
