Usually I don't comment (or very rarely) on software that I haven't downloaded and carefully tested myself. But this is an exception since I want to share an alternative.

100% exactly what I think too, it speaks from my heart :).
Whats the point of a software that lets you transfer your files from iPod etc. to PC but not vice versa - none at all. Before they went on iPod you must have had them on PC anyway and (hopefully) made a backup. The real pain is to transfer files from PC to iPod if you don't want to use iTunes.
I don't like iTunes and it belongs to the programs that will never get to my PC. Why install something that I would only need for one reason, i.e. manage my iPod files. If I purchase music I have my emusic membership and also Amazon. For managing my playlists I am using Spiderplayer and there are several great music managers, such as J. River Mediajukebox, Mediamonkey, Songbird, MusicBee, Foobar.
And mostly I use my Archos player which is much better than iPod. But I too have an older iPod as well, so I did search for a tool that lets one transfer in 2 directions.
Now, for transferring only from iPod to PC there are countless free tools available, just google for Yamipod or Sharepod (that I never saw any point for, due to the above reasons). The important thing is, how do you transfer from PC to iPod and how can you manage your files on iPod without iTunes.
Well, there is Winamp, its free and there is a free iPod plugin, that works in both directions.
And, there is also a nice little freeware, called Poddox. It can transfer files from iPod to PC AND ALSO from PC to iPod (don't know if it also works with iPad and iPhone, as I don't have that, but would be worth testing).
Poddox can also manage files on iPod and can even repair a damaged iTunes database on iPod (without iTunes of course).
The only downside is, that obviously it is not developed further anymore, the last version is from 2007. But it works great

Wishing everyone a wonderful "jump" into the new year and a new year filled with health, prosperity and happiness!
This seems pretty pointless to me, as you can transfer all your ipod/iphone stuff just by enabling your hidden folders with the pod plugged in. Admittedly, iTunes stores music in an illogical way, but it is there all the same with no need to download a program.
#7 When plugging in someone else's stuff to your computer, a prompt comes up asking if you are sure you want to sync. Click no or cancel. After this, just click the ipod icon on left. On the first page scroll down and check the manually manage box. Be sure to save by clicking another folder. To sync later just uncheck that box and save.
There's freeware program called "Sharepod" which does all this and more.
I installed this on Windows 7, 64 bit. The program installed fine, but it never found my Iphone 3gs.
This seems like a nice program, however it didn't work for me.
It's pretty good thumbs. Up
