To No 1, Trucker - You wonder why people want to copy their movies - I copy every one of my dvds that I enjoy because I know that I will want to see them again and again and who knows whether the dvd medium will be any good after being played several times. I have a 2Tb drive with all my favourite 'dvds' on them. I love scenery and railway dvds, not so much actual movies, and I watch them over and over! A huge benefit during chemo - all I did was watch the dvds and listen to my music and while in hospital I just took the external drive with me, not heaps of dvds.
I don't consider myself to be pirating anything, as I still keep the originals which I have bought legally, but if they fail I have the backups on external drives so I don't lose them. As far as I know, in New Zealand you are entitled to make one backup of your dvds. Even if you weren't, I would still copy them, a lot of mine have cost me an arm and a leg and I couldn't now afford to replace them.
One answer to #1: I like to copy DVDs and use the copy to watch the movies so that the original is preserved in good condition and the copies get the wear and tear, scratches, etc. That way its the copy that becomes worn out and when it needs replaced, the original is still available in good condition and another copy can be made to replace the worn out one.
#1 Trucker. Yes, of course it can be used to pirate. But it can also be used to download the DVD to your hard disk so that you have a backup copy in case you screw up the original (scratches etc)
#2 Mykee. It would be useful if you would report to this thread what problems you found rather than just say it cannot update newer disks. I for one would be interested
#3 Vlavimir. Good questions but why not download it, try, and report back
This version cannot update for newer DVD protections! DVDFab giveaway was better with updates for one year...
To the 1st commenter: If you had a 4-year old son like me, in love with his Ben 10 movies but less than careful with the discs, you would know that there is a legitimate and lawful reason for backing them up.
