Very nice software! Took an old presentation I did a few years ago for speech class and added a tune to it that matched the slide transitions. BTW: This installs PowerPoint Viewer 2007, not PowerPoint, so you will need an existing PowerPoint file or create one using other software. Thanks mediAvatar and GAOTD!
Just created a .ppt file in Open Office Presentation and converted with to an AVI with this give away. Output vid is good quality and all transition effects were in tact. Allows user to add audio, convert between many popular video file types (profiles) (AVI,MOV,FLV,MPEG4, H.264 MPEG4 and mobile devices (iPhone, Blackberry, etc.). Does an excellent job at what does.
@ John "Rapid Convert and Presentation Recording are not supported because Microsoft PowerPoint is not installed, but it is still available to convert PPT file to video"...simply means to use these features, (as they are probably hooks for MS PowerPoint) that you need MS Office as they do not "hook" into Open/Libre Office. Although either one can export to FLV out-of-the-box and can be converted with other apps.
@ Davena I am sure that it may have removed the viewer due to you having the full PowerPoint program installed so you would not need a viewer. I assume it will work fine. If you have any issues, just save your file from .pptx to .ppt and you should be able to convert your presentation without issue.
Overall, this is a nice application and it is nice to see that you do NOT need MS Office installed too use this program. As most of the MS Office apps given away here only work as a plugin or hook for Microsoft products.
Looked very promising so I downloaded and tested it.
Pluses:
* Handles PPT animations with precision, including motion and timing.
* easy to use, simple interface.
Minuses:
* Leaves the PPT program running in background after you exit MediaAvatar. You have to close PPT in task manager for PPT's slide show mode to work properly.
* Although adding sound worked perfectly in my first test, it stopped working with the second and subsequent test. Still can't get added sound to carry over into the resulting video.
I wonder why mediAvatar Powerpoint to Video Converter has received so many thumbs down. Perhaps it's simply because it's a converter, and we tend to see rather a lot of them given away. Or maybe it's because the product name so pointedly excludes business use, which isn't what we want to see. Whatever the reason, I tend to doubt that it's because people have tried the product and found it wanting.
I've installed this program, and I've converted several long technical presentations that I've had for a while, and have never got round to watching. Installation was smooth and easy. The program is very easy to use. It looks and feels well designed and no-nonsense. The conversion rate is somewhat slow, but the output is high quality and not bloated, so I'm very happy. There's a fast conversion option available if you'd prefer to trade off quality for speed, which is a nice feature. I'll definitely be keeping this program for occasional use.
Video really is a far more convenient format for watching presentations than PowerPoint (or OpenOffice/LibreOffice), so I'd encourage anyone who is deliberating over this to give one to it a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Another great program from GAOTD - Installed on Win7 64 bit without a hitch. Originally using Wondershare product, but made files huge and took too long to build them. This program is easy to use and fast - only problem we had was it clipped off the background sound prematurely at the end of the video on the finished product. Other than that great program.
