Installed no problems on Windows 7 x64, I wanted to try this one out as I thought the words,"without affecting the gameplay or reducing frame rate." were a bit of a wild claim.

I tried Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Poker Night At The Inventory, Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway.... It came as absolutely no surprise that even with an Nvidea card on the 'recommended' multi-core system the fps and the gameplay were in actual fact affected. Oh well...never mind.
Thanks GAOTD

Downloaded fine on Vista 64-bit.

The UI is easy to use and functional with useful settings.

Screenshots and video came out well. I noticed a little lag when taking video, but not bad and it's expected anyway. I like the option of changing the screenshot notifier to text or red flash.

Video looked good and recorded sound nicely. I'd like there to be some indication that video is recording besides the FPS counter turning red. If FPS overlay is off, you can't tell if you're recording. Not a big deal, but would be nice.

I can't seem to get it to minimize to the system tray, which I'd like it to do, rather than have a window tab on the taskbar. I thought I did it once, but can't do it when I'm trying to.

The overlays looked good and I liked that I could position them wherever I wanted. I could not get the Ventrilo overlay to work, which is a big thing. There aren't any settings to it so I don't think I could have done something wrong, but can't rule out user error. Vent/TS overlay is a really good selling point, I hope it works in the future.

I didn't do anything with benchmarks, but it'll record FPS, CPU and GPU and seems pretty standard for benchmarking.

Overall, looks like a good product and would be a good alternative to Fraps or the similar features of Xfire (screenshots and video). This would be great if the Vent/TS overlay worked.

I would and will recommend this. Thanks!

Well...today's giveaway looks like an EXCELLENT PROGRAM (in my view slightly better than freeware FRAPS) despite being confined to a very strict niche of PC users (==> PC GAMERS).

So THUMBS UP from me!!

However, for a more comprehensive FREE video snapshots solution, most people here may find more useful trying an excellent and pretty unknown program, I recently stumble upon, called "SUPER PICK 4.0".

In a nutshell, it's an app designed to capture and record any screen activities either within the DESKTOP, or MOVIES, or just within GAMES both in full screen and fixed region, meaning it's not only meant for PC GAMERS, unlike today's giveaway.

This FREE tool records videos (movies, games etc...) with AUDIO into 4 video file formats(AVI, FLV, SWF, MP4) which are very small in size, letting you choose video and audio codec and even the quality output, with a lots of other features available as well (see screenshots below).

Enjoy & Prosper!!

Cheers from Italy!!

First, what I consider a mandatory disclaimer. I've used this software since the original free giveaway well over a year ago. I even went so far as to buy it when I had a hard disk crash because I liked it so much. That 2on't stop me from giving as far and un-biased an opinion as I can but I wanted you to understand that in advance.

Those of you that remember the days when Ashraf of DotTech.org reviewed all the software released on this site will be pleased to know he rated this one as 2 thumbs up - Great. He compared this one to FRAPS, a free system that does essentially the same thing and named it a serious contender. Fraps has been on the market for a long time but Playclaw introduced several innovations he liked and was light on system resources.

I can't honestly compare the two, I've never used FRAPS and don't use it for game recording anyway. What I can tell you is that this software is a quality item and well worth checking out. The developer even took the time to work out the bugs in the program so it would work to record IMVU chats, the purpose I wanted it for. Not bad for a free program with limited or no tech support eh? It took less than 2 weeks for him to fix the problem and he emailed me the corrected version prior to release. His purpose was to make sure the fix would work for me before he made it an official release but I consider that support above and beyond what almost any software company will do.

Also my registration key (from the version I purchased, not the giveaway) continues to work to this day even through all the upgrades. (Version 1.5 up through 2.1.) Again, unusual for a developer to allow upgrades like that. Many software developers are reluctant to allow you to upgrade at all w/o some upgrade fee but he did not even consider a version change worth forcing me to pay another fee. Again I consider this service beyond what other software companies even think of doing.

Now as to use. Setup is easy and the common tab allows 4 configuration options. Language choice, Start Minimized, Minimize to System Tray and Start With Windows three of these are check boxes and the first one is a drop down menu option. Extremely simple operation all the way through, you can configure hotkeys by selecting the box showing the key and pressing the new key you want to use instead. Configure folder options for screenshots and videos, and those can be separate folders if you want. Compression, frame size, frame rate and even the number of cores to use if you are on a multiple core machine. Overlays are highly configurable by simple checkboxes for each ove4rlay option. Again solid workmanship building an easy user interface with simple controls that you set yourself.

Limitations: Screenshots are limited to 4 options, PNG, JPEG, TGA and BMP. The last one is relatively useless due to it's high file size and lack of options so I ignore it and pretty much stick with PNG. GIF would be a nice option but not supported as yet. The video has only one recording option FLV. This gives you a high quality recording with limited system resources used, but makes options for editing the resulting film later more of a problem. (Editing can't be done with this program BTW, you need a separate program for that.) Simply put there are not very many FLV editors out there so the option to record in AVI would be nice. Both of these limitations are very minor IMO. Converting a file to AVI isn't that hard, many free programs out there can do it, and PNG is a solid dependable format that will do almost everything GIF would except animations. For a screenshot you don't need animations anyway, that's the job of the video recorder. With the proper software you can even convert FLV to animated GIF yourself.

Please note I am not suggestion that this program get the ability to do conversions. Cluttering up this program with useless features that are beyond the scope of it's function would only slow it down and make it use far more system resources. Even recording directly to AVI would probably slow the system down tremendously and that's the real beauty of this program, it won't slow down your system significantly. I used the original version on a system with 4MB ram and a 80 GB hard disk running windows XP. The program I recorded from is a 1.5 GB monster of an Avatar chat program and I still did not notice a significant reduction of speed. Since upgrading my system I can't see any speed reduction at all while using this program.

It isn't a general purpose screenshot tool or video recorder for everything you do on your computer. You nedd to record a tutorial or take a screenshot of your browser widow then you need another tool entirely. What it does do it does extremely well. My final recommendation is if you don't need it don't get it but if you want to be able to take screenshots and videos of your online games or similar programs like chat then definitely check this one out. I'm still a huge fan of this program and I don't see that changing.
